The Cold Spring Production Plant became an official part of Gold'n Plump when it was purchased from Armour Processing in 1983. Gold'n Plump had been processing chickens there since 1955 under a joint business venture. The purchase, however, completed Gold'n Plump's vertical integration.
The plant was the first in the country with the ability to produce same-weight, scannable packages of chicken. It processes 4 million pounds of chicken each week, which is primarily made into retail tray pack chicken sold in grocery stores.
